Ingredients
- 2 cups corn masa
- 1 pound shark
- 1 cup tomatoes
- 0.5 cup onion
- 2 cloves garlic
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 0.25 cup cilantro
- 1 whole lime
- 1 whole jalapeno
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
Instructions
- 1Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- 2In a large bowl, combine corn masa with warm water and a pinch of sea salt. Knead until the dough is smooth and pliable.
- 3Divide the dough into 8 equal portions, rolling each into a ball. Flatten each ball into a circular disc.
- 4For the filling, heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté onions and garlic until translucent.
- 5Add the shark meat, finely chopped, to the skillet. Cook until it's no longer pink.
- 6Mix in chopped tomatoes, cilantro, and diced jalapeno. Season with black pepper and sea salt. Cook for 5 more minutes.
- 7Place a spoonful of the filling in the center of each masa disc. Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges to seal.
- 8Arrange the empanadas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 9Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the empanadas are golden brown.
- 10Serve hot, with lime wedges on the side for squeezing over the empanadas.
- 11Enjoy your healthy Empanadas de Maíz con Cazón, a delightful blend of traditional flavors and nutritious ingredients.
- 12Optional: Serve with a side of freshly chopped cilantro and onion for an extra burst of flavor.
